ARTIST TALK

Walter Gilbert and Gregory Rumph

Thursday February 9

7 P.M.

FREE AND OPEN TO THE PUBLIC

Join us for a special evening with Sarasota-based visual artist and educator Gregory Rumph for a discussion moderated by community organizer and Marie Selby Botanical Gardens Vice President of Diversity, Inclusion, and Equity, Walter Gilbert.

Rumph’s artistry is influenced by his surroundings and connections, and he uses color and form to highlight and expose beauty and freedom.

Rumph will speak about the process, project, and inspiration behind his two works, “Nina Simone,” based on a portrait study of the artist, and “Aunt Sarah,” one of four pieces that interpret her song “Four Women”. Rumph’s art has been shown in a number of exhibitions, and he presently directs the Visual Performing Arts magnet program (VPA) at Booker High School.
