Thank you, Sarasota Players. Now in their 94th season, the play troupe continues to deliver high quality productions that engage the audiences through the arts. “A Tuna Christmas” is this holiday season’s special gem and a “must see” for anyone who appreciates laughter during this frenetic holiday season. Set in a small, rural fictitious town in Texas named “Tuna,” and features two male actors playing the entire cast of over twenty eccentric characters (and multiple genders at various ages).

It’s a whirlwind of warp-speed costume changes and impersonizations.

Sarasota Events Calendar attended last week’s performance, presented by The Sarasota Players, and had sat front row and center in the Player’s 1130 Theatre, located at 3501 S. Tamiami Trail (The Crossings at Siesta Key) in the Westfield Mall (adjacent to Conner’s Steakhouse). This venue is intimate, every seat is a good one, and the acoustics work well here, even for those who wear hearing aids 🙂 !

While the play has been performed in various theaters and has been well-received for its comedic portrayal of small-town life, The Sarasota Players put their own spin on this hilarious satirical play highlighting Tuna, Texas attitudes during the Christmas season.

The theme features Tuna, Texas radio station OKK news personalities Thurston Wheelis and Arles Struvie who report on various Yuletide activities, including the hot competition in the annual lawn-display contest. In other satirical-style news characteristic of this play, voracious Joe Bob Lipsey’s production of A Christmas Carol is jeopardized by unpaid electric bills.

The Director for “A Tuna Christmas” is Kathy Junkins, and the cast features: Josh Brin, James McNally,
and David Russell.

Audiences who have and who have not seen Greater Tuna will enjoy this laugh-filled evening.

“A Tuna Christmas,” which runs for two hours with a 15-minute intermission, is a sequel to “Greater Tuna,” performed by Sarasota Players in previous years.
