Asolo Rep brings comedic new ‘Three Musketeers.

Asolo Repertory Theatre has presented versions of Alexandre Dumas’ enduring story “The Three Musketeers” twice before in the last 42 years, but never quite like the production that Peter Amster is staging to kick off the new year and the start of the winter repertory season.

This production, which begins Wednesday, features a script by Ken Ludwig, best known for the comedy “Lend Me a Tenor” and the musical “Crazy for You,” as well as the stage version of Agatha Christie’s “Murder on the Orient Express,” which was a hit at Asolo Rep two years ago.

Harrowing adventure, bravery, and friendship take center stage in Ken Ludwig’s THE THREE MUSKETEERS, a thrilling adaptation of the popular novel by Alexandre Dumas. One of the world’s most enduring comedies, this classic tells the tale of a daring young man who finds himself in the company of the world’s greatest swordsmen, as well as some of the world’s most dangerous men and women.

Directed by Peter Amster, who most recently directed Asolo Rep’s smash hit Murder on the Orient Express in 2020, this play promises to be a fast-paced, witty, swashbuckling good time.

In this series, adults will dance and sing their way through musical numbers. Each class will begin with a warm-up and focus on one number from a Broadway musical.

Each class is 75 minutes long.

About Justin

JUSTIN GOMLAK is a veteran of nine Broadway shows, originating companies, understudying major roles, and serving as a dance captain and swing in multiple productions over fifteen years. These shows include original companies of Seussical the Musical and Shrek the Musical, The Producers and revivals of Annie Get Your Gun, Mystery of Edwin Drood, Annie, and the Tony Award-winning revival of Anything Goes. Concurrently, he has been a teaching artist, a master class facilitator, guest artist, faculty member, and arts administrator for numerous arts education organizations including Camp Broadway, Broadway Classroom, City Center, the BRAVO television network, US Performing Arts Camps, Moveable Arts, Arts Horizons and in the NYC public schools. He was most recently a performing arts specialist on the faculty of Manhattan’s prestigious Dalton School, teaching dance and theatre to students in kindergarten through third grade. He extensively lectures and has held master classes in audition techniques, dance, acting, music, and performance. He holds a BFA in Vocal Performance and Theatre from Carnegie Mellon University and a MA in Educational Leadership, Politics, and Advocacy from New York University.

Based on his extensive Broadway career, Director of Education Justin Gomlak will offer a series of masterclasses in dance, singing, acting, and stage combat. The intention is to generate revenue for the Education Department while offering enriching experiences for VWPAH patrons and their children and grandchildren.

The Stephen Flaherty and Lynn Ahrens musical takes us into the world of Dr. Seuss, where Horton, a kind-hearted elephant finds a speck of dust containing Whoville. He must protect the speck while at the same time protecting an abandoned egg. Horton tries to convince the other animals in The Jungle of Nool of the existence of the Whos, but he is ridiculed and put on trial. Only his neighbor, Gertrude, never gives up on him. Despite the odds, Horton and Gertrude band together to save the Whos, free Horton, and restore peace and unity. Seussical paints a picture of friendship, loyalty, and love, teaching of the power of being unique, and the importance of fighting for what you believe in.

WORLD PREMIERE. It’s the 1970s and the small town of Beaver Gap, Pennsylvania has a problem. Tourism has declined, and it doesn’t look like there is any hope on the horizon. However, when a passionate resident joins forces with the bewildered city council, they devise a plan to rename the town to honor a dead, Native American war hero who never even visited the town during his lifetime. It’s a plan so wild – so insane – it just might work!
