The Suncoast Storytellers, Inc, (Florida Non-Profit formerly known as the Storytellers of Old Tampa Bay), Monthly Open Mic for Storytellers.
The 2nd Saturday, Suncoast Storytellers Open Mic, Feb. 11 – The Factory, St. Petersburg, will honor Black History Month with a spotlight performance by highly acclaimed Griot, Don Laurin. What is a “Griot” (Gree-oo)? Griot is a catch-all term for Africa’s traditional historians, musicians and storytellers.
Don is not only a renowned Griot, a melodic storytelling master of rhythms, melodies, and tales of the African Diaspora he has composed music for the University of South Florida, the Cumberland County Playhouse, the Irene Rodriguez Company, and the University of the South Pacific – Fiji.
Our Featured St. Pete Storyteller for February is Janice Starling, Educator, Kidney Patient Advocate, and Community Historian for the Emerson to Fairfield Ave. South area of St. Pete.
The M.C. will be Ms. Wanda Stuart, Special Events Director for Suncoast Storytellers, Inc., Community Activist, Member of the St. Petersburg Senior Hall of Fame, and professional educator for Operation Par.
Opening Interlude Music by Henry Ashwood, Jazz Sax.

The Suncoast Storytellers, Inc, (Florida Non-Profit), was formerly known as the Storytellers of Old Tampa Bay, an all-volunteer community organization dedicated to the advancement of first person and traditional oral storytelling.
