Short & Suite Holiday Show: Azara Ballet Rings in the Season!

Azara Ballet, now in its second season, is a contemporary ballet company in Sarasota that is making waves in the local arts scene. Founded by Kate Flowers in 2022, the company aims to promote body positivity and inclusivity within the dance community. Flowers, a former dancer with personal experiences related to body image issues, created Azara Ballet to provide a safe space for dancers who do not fit traditional molds. The name “Azara” was inspired by the origins of Sarasota and symbolizes “help” in Hebrew, reflecting the company’s mission to support mental well-being among its performers.

The company made its debut performance on November 17, 2023, at the SCF Neel Performing Arts Center in Bradenton, showcasing a program titled “Expressions,” which features four contemporary ballets. Azara Ballet distinguishes itself from other local companies by focusing on storytelling relevant to today’s audiences and incorporating both classical and contemporary dance styles. This year, their repertoire of performances are even more spectacular than before!
