Svetlana – #1 BILLBOARD USA TRADITIONAL JAZZ ALBUM CHARTS

Svetlana is a New York-based acclaimed chart-topping vocalist, composer, band leader, educator, and a Manhattan School of Music MA and Columbia Ph.D. graduate. Svetlana’s sound blends swing, straight-ahead jazz, and original material, forging deep connections with audiences with her strong vocals, charismatic performance style, exciting improvisational aspects of performance, and engaging storytelling.

She is a recipient of awards from Jazz Road/South Arts, New Music USA, and Chamber Music America, a fellow of the Culture Lab LIC Emergent Artist Residency, a Finalist of Paul Carr’s 2019 Discovery Act Competition, a finalist of the American Music Abroad program, and an alternate of the 2019 & 20 American traditions vocal competitions.

Svetlana’s latest record, Night at the Movies, debuted at #1 on US Billboard Traditional Jazz Album Charts in 2019 (produced by Grammy Award-winning Matt Pierson, and arranged by Gill Goldstein – ft Wycliffe Gordon, Sullivan Fortner, Pasqualle Grasso, Rogerio Boccato, Jon Eric Kelso and more) and has been distributed in Japan by the Inpartmaint label. Svetlana’s album Night at the Speakeasy (produced by Grammy Award-winning Guy Eckstine and ft Wycliffe Gordon) has been released to critical acclaim on Origin Records in 2015 and charted on US Jazz Radio charts. Both of Svetlana’s records have played on jazz radio globally and have been among the “top of the year” critic’s lists (All About Jazz, Classicalite, Aquarian.

Svetlana has performed professionally since 2011 after reaching success as a management consultant and associate professor at Columbia University – and has toured with her various bands nationally and internationally since 2017, headlining hundreds of sold-out shows in the US and abroad in renowned jazz clubs, performing arts centers, national and jazz festivals holding crowds breathless from intimate house concerts to 1,500 audience member concerts, delivering “great sounding, great looking, highly entertaining unique tight show – with a big sound and deeply personal sincere connection with the audience!” (Festival Presenter, USA).

 

Svetlana is also a founder of the award-winning jazz appreciation program for young audiences Swing Makes You Sing.
