Event Details

In conjunction with our exhibit Paul Éluard: Poetry, Politics, Love, we invite you to explore the artistry of Paul Éluard in a riveting lecture presented by Alex Lenoble, professor of French at the University of South Florida.

Paul Éluard is perhaps the most celebrated of the surrealist poets. Known as “the Poet of Freedom,” he devoted his art to love and desire. But during the German occupation of Paris, his words of love turned into miraculous weapons to fight the enemy. Through an exploration of some known and less known of Éluard’s poems, Professor Alex Lenoble will present the multifaceted powers of Éluard’s poetry, his role in the surrealist movement and his involvement in Resistance and communism.
