The Woodson African American Museum of Florida – formerly known as The Dr. Carter G. Woodson African American Museum – celebrates more than a decade-long history. The building was originally the rental office and community center for St. Petersburg’s first African American developed public housing community – Jordan Park – which was constructed in 1939. The history of African Americans is the central focus of programming at The Woodson African American Museum of Florida. The Museum serves to preserve this rich history for present and future generations. The mission of The Woodson African American Museum of Florida is two-fold: 1) To preserve, present, and interpret African American history and to engage a broad and diverse audience through community outreach. 2) To promote an understanding among
