Garden Goddesses and Gargoyles

Garden Goddesses & Gargoyles: This is an easy and fun Ink Blot painting process. Paint blots are placed strategically on paper, which is then folded and opened. Next, students will be guided to find images in the inkblot which they will develop into a garden goddess or gargoyle. This is a mixed media class using paint, pastels, ink, and other materials. Each student will have time to create one or two images. This is a fun, inventive class, where you can let your imagination soar and see what happens.

Judy Lyon was raised on the shores of northern Lake Michigan and grew up loving nature and the great outdoors. Judy attended rural schools in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.

After high school, Judy graduated from Grand Valley State University near Grand Rapids, where she double majored in Art and Psychology.

After moving to Florida with her husband, Michael, and son, Clayton, she became a certified art teacher and earned her master’s degree in Guidance Counseling from the University of South Florida in 1997. She also earned a Certificate in Art and Healing from Ringling College of Art and Design.

Judy taught for over 25 years at Riverview High School in Sarasota and in Manatee County Schools and retired in 2018.

She now teaches in the community. She works and teaches using many different methods and materials. Judy loves sharing her passion for art with others, and greatly enjoys inspiring others to explore art, especially those who feel they are not ‘artistic’. She believes that art is a tonic for the spirit and can be enjoyed by everyone. In addition to teaching art, Judy is a Certified Yoga instructor and loves sharing her zeal for yoga, as well as art.
