Event Details

Jeffrey Kahane, piano
Beethoven – Sonata for Cello No. 3
Brahms – Sonata for Clarinet No. 1
Stravinsky – Suite Italienne
Duration TBA. No intermission.

Music Director of the Sarasota Music Festival and world-renowned pianist Jeffrey Kahane joins three Sarasota Orchestra principal musicians for a program devoted to the intimacy of the sonata. Beethoven’s Sonata No. 3 is often noted as the first cello sonata in history where the cello and piano were given equal importance. Sarasota Orchestra’s Principal Cellist Natalie Helm brings this popular work to life. Bharat Chandra’s powerful clarinet voice will be heard in Brahms’ first clarinet sonata, one of the last chamber works the composer wrote. Assistant Concertmaster Jennifer Best Takeda brings her artistry to Stravinsky’s Suite Italienne. Stravinsky took movements from his extraordinary ballet score Pulcinella and utilized them for this suite. Tuneful and witty, the “neo-Baroque” music is nothing short of brilliant.
