This gathering includes a showcase of local music jammers, who will demonstrate jazz and blues, Celtic, old-time dance tunes, song classics and folk songs, and provide open jam etiquette tips.

Their presentation will be followed by a relaxed, communal sharing of tunes and stories.

Musicians are encouraged to bring their instruments (fiddles, guitars, ukuleles, accordions, etc.), questions and frustrations, and curiosity to learn what the local traditions have been, what is available now, and how each jam forms its own cultural community.

But an instrument is not required. All music lovers, regardless of age, ability or experience, are welcome to tap their feet, dance and sing along.

The jam environment fosters confidence, deep learning, the formation of supportive friendships, and a shared love of making music.

Participating jammers include Jim Glover and friends of the former Sarasota Folk Club, Jazz Jam SRQ, Sarasota Strummers Ukulele Meetup, Tampa Friends of Old Time Dance and Tampa Bay Contra Dancing.

The Nov. 9 gathering is meant as a primer for Fogartyville’s new family-friendly and free Trad-Roots Jam series, which will take place 1:30-4:30 p.m. on the first Sunday of the month beginning Dec. 3.
