Perspectives on Preserving Modern Architecture and Design Symposium

November 16 @ 8:30 am - 12:15 pm

Three experts present and debate varying philosophies and technical approaches to preserving modern architectural and design heritage.

Stewarding modern architecture and resources from the mid- and late-20th century frequently poses a distinct set of challenges: from technical issues of conserving manufactured materials and their often experimental applications to philosophical considerations of favoring conceptual over physical authenticity. Through a series of case studies ranging from buildings designed by Frank Lloyd Wright in Chicago to Richard Neutra on the West Coast to Cuban designers and artists in Havana, three leading experts present varied viewpoints and a range of approaches to preserving modern architecture and design.
